So you have a new computer and want to begin using it immediately. . This page will help you do just that in 6 easy steps, easy as ABC 123. But you will be doing your self a great favor if as soon as possible you use the training course Contents page and study the entire course.

  • A: The mouse buttons, a left or left double click will execute functions. The right button will only activate available hidden context menus, then requiring left clicks to execute functions. Visible Context Menus such as Start, Programs require a left click. Adjust the mouse buttons in Start, Settings, Control Panel, click the Mouse icon.

  • B: Open programs from Start, Programs. Or click available desktop icons.

  • C: Install new programs, most new programs on CD-ROM disk will auto run, just follow the prompts. If no auto run or you are installing from a diskette or downloaded file . . . use Start, Run and Browse.

    A tiny navigation arrow on the right side of the Look In Box. Using this arrow will open a mini view of Windows Explorer, follow instructions in the next paragraph.

  • 2 - Or Windows Explorer (found probably in Start, Programs, Accessories) Windows Explorer instructions: Click the pluses ( + ) and folder names in the left pane and searching for in most cases the setup.exe file in the right pane.

  • 3 - Or Start, Settings, Control Panel, Add or Remove Programs, then the Add New Programs tab followed with clicking the CD or Floppy button in Windows XP which will when needed bring up a Browse button. In older Windows versions it will be very similar.

    In all cases when Setup begins just follow the prompts. Most better software programs will provide several options including an option of where to (on what drive and in which folder name) to install the program.

    Programs can be un-installed, first from their own Start, Programs, Un-install function. If non existent use the Change or Remove tab in Control Panel, Add or Remove Programs function tab. If the program is not listed there, use the Delete function (carefully) in Windows Explorer.
